Patience... by parkflavor Patience... by parkflavor
This is one of the least creative photos I've ever taken. And one of the least fun...if you've been there, you know what I mean. But if you hit the Watchman on the right night, you can definitely come away with a good shot, even if it's totally cliche.

Wow, I logged in today to find that this became a DD. A big thanks to you guys for all the positive feedback. It seems like many of you are wondering what I meant in the description above. This photo is taken in Zion National Park and is a "trophy shot" that everyone seems to want. It is super easy to get to, taken from a bridge that is about 50 feet long and every evening, photographers line up, shoulder to shoulder (especially in the fall), jostling for position. It would be a much more fun experience if it were a little harder to get to so that you had some personal space.

Thanks again for all the support!

The river and those yellow trees draw you out of their shadow and into the wonderful warm light against the rock face. I think you under estimated your shot, Ill just agree with others and say you have captured wonderful image.

Wow, the thumbnail looked like a painting, but this is a photo? This is an amazing shot! I love the intense colors and the way the light hits the mountains. I'm sorry that it was not a fun photo to take, but it's enjoyable to look at ;P Thank you

To me, this shot is a rarity. I've never seen it before, even if it is a cliche shot. It is absolutely beautiful! It is picturesque. Such clarity and great lighting.

It may be common to all the photographers who took that same shot, but you took this one and shared it with us. So because of that, I thank you. B-)

What would this shot look like if you were under the bridge when you took it?

:iconparkflavor:

I'm not sure, I think you could probably get a good shot, however if you want to see the mountain in the background you have to walk along the river for a bit, inevitably getting in all people's photos from the bridge and you will get yelled at.

Brilliant colors can overcome the cliche nature of your subject. They're so intriguing. Great lighting and colors. For what its worth, you might see this a lot but for some people this sight is absolutely stunning.

Still, it's composed well enough, and the exposure is just...well perfect for lack of a better word. Each tone seems perfect. Some of my shots are taken on dirt roads, open fields, campsites, even a couple a short walk from my house! I don't think it's traversing mountains and living in the wilderness for weeks on end that makes great photographs. It's just your own talent, and how you show the simplicity present in each scene. Masterpieces can be created in your own backyard, on an overshot bridge...Wherever. It will only be cliche if that's how you feel about it. Be proud of this!

I understand what your saying about the shot. I still have never seen this shot before. It is a very beautiful photo.
I think the best shots are ones you don't have to do any retouches or Photoshop rework on them. So thanks for
sharing the beauty.

HDR? I can only assume so. However colors are far to rich and seem burnt out in the yellow spectrom Other than that it looks very good. Where did you shoot this? It is still an increadible shot.

I did blend two exposures here to get the dynamic range, but I don't use any HDR programs or anything to do that, it's all manual - looks much better that way in my opinion. Thanks for the compliments, this is in Zion National Park.
